[더파워 이경호 기자] Kia has revealed the interior and exterior design of its new compact electric SUV, The Kia EV5, marking a bold step in its mission to make electrification more accessible to the public. Officially unveiled on July 8, the EV5 becomes the fifth addition to Kia’s dedicated electric vehicle lineup, following the EV6, EV9, EV3, and EV4. Designed with a strong focus on interior space and practical utility, the EV5 embodies the essence of a true SUV.
The EV5 is built on Kia’s specialized EV platform and features a traditional SUV body style, offering a spacious cabin and flexible functionality. The company aims to lead the transition to mass electrification through this strategic model.
Futuristic Exterior Infused with Authentic SUV DNA
The EV5’s exterior reflects Kia’s design philosophy, Opposites United, combining a boxy silhouette with a dynamic, modern aesthetic. The front fascia is defined by a bold skid plate, sculpted hood, and vertically stacked LED headlamps. The daytime running lights (DRLs), inspired by constellations, add a refined yet powerful impression.
The side profile emphasizes the model’s SUV character with a pronounced D-pillar and boxy tailgate. Square-shaped fenders and geometrically patterned 19-inch diamond-cut wheels further underscore the vehicle’s rugged image. At the rear, a horizontal and vertical lighting arrangement complements the wide tailgate, projecting a sense of stability and strength.
Interior Blends Practicality and Comfort
Inside, the EV5 showcases the theme of “bold harmony with nature,” offering a serene and spacious atmosphere for both drivers and passengers. A panoramic wide display seamlessly integrates a 12.3-inch digital cluster, 12.3-inch infotainment screen, and a 5-inch climate control display, all set within a horizontal cockpit layout that enhances the cabin’s openness. Dynamic ambient lighting adds a futuristic touch.
In the front, a large center console provides ample storage, while the second row features a sliding tray and three-zone climate control system to boost comfort. When the rear seats are fully folded, a flat cargo area forms, aligning with the trunk floor—ideal for camping or outdoor adventures. A dedicated luggage board enhances storage convenience.
“A New Standard for Mass EV Adoption” – More Details Coming Later This Year
The EV5 is equipped with an 81.4kWh NCM battery, offering an extended driving range to meet the demands of everyday mobility and long-distance travel. A Kia official stated, “The EV5 brings together advanced electrification technology and practical usability, setting a new benchmark for the popularization of EVs in Korea. Its spacious SUV design and long-range capability will deliver a versatile mobility experience.”
Kia plans to reveal the full specifications of the EV5 and its high-performance GT-line variant later this year, in line with the domestic launch schedule.
